Methoni
The area around Methoni has countless beaches, some of the most important archaeological sites and areas of natural beauty. The village also hosts several interesting tavernas with imaginative menus. There is even a fish taverna on the beach and you can buy fresh fish off the boat!
Methoni castle
Methoni castle is massive and well preserved. Built mainly during the Venetian period, it dominates the west end of the beach and overlooks the little harbour.

'Destino' at the next beach east has a pool, childrens pool, bar sunbeds on the beach and an inexpensive taverna next door.
Golden Beach
Golden Beach just ouside Gialova is a slightly wild, beautiful 3km stretch of safe sandy beach. At the end you can walk up to 'Paliokastro' the old castle.
Voidokilia Beach
Voidokilia Beach is next up ! It's famous for its semi-circular beach and the nature reserve behind. There is also a 'secret beach' nearby.
Shinolakka waterfall
Shinolakka waterfall is a picturesque waterfall where you can swim and enjoy a picnic under shady trees.

Gialova
Gialova is a small village whose coastline has developed into THE place to go if you want fine dining. Tavernas and restaurants are set along the beach, some with tables on the beach. There are around 15 restaurants with a variety of international cuisines

Pylos Town has a beautiful main square shaded by plane trees and there is a restored castle and harbour. It's the place for vital shopping.

The Palace of Nestor is 15 minutes north-east. In 2015 a Bronze Age warriors tomb was discovered. It has more than 1,400 jewels plus weapons and armour.
Ancient Messini is one hours drive east. It is well preserved with imposing fortifications, stadium, gymnasium, houses and tombs.
